Robert F. Kennedy Jr. entered the University of Western Ontario’s Alumni Hall to find a sold out crowd on their feet. Though he was losing his voice (which he assured the audience was nothing to worry about) he delivered a speech about “Our Environmental Destiny” with the passion and grace one would expect from a member of the Kennedy family.
Oh Canada!
He quickly won over the audience at the London Ontario based University with a flurry of compliments directed at the host country. He told the crowd that he visits Canada at least twice a month, and enjoys camping in Algonquin Park in the summers, which is only a few hours drive from London. “I think of the United States as the 14th province of Canada,” he said, just before another standing ovation.
He then complimented the crowd for how much more patriotism he sees in Canada now versus twenty years ago. After congratulating Canada for hosting the Olympics he explained, “I was one of the few Americans to root for the Canadians,” when the cheering finally stopped he added, “I love Canadians, I don’t want to see mass suicide.”
